OK, so as you know I bollocksed up our computer by installing, against my own better judgement (but who am I compared to Microsoft, whose people I was under the impression knew what they were talking about) Service Pack 2.

Today the Sony guy said to use the Vaio product recovery discs which include XP (had I known this, I could've done it all on fucking Saturday). Worked fine and took 15 minutes to do compared to the hour I thought it would. All works more-or-less OK, except Windows Media Player which crashes. So I get it hooked back up onto broadband net and install WMP again. Except I clicked WMP 10 instead of 9, which is what it turned out I wanted. I try to remove 10 to put 9 back. It tells me it's going to 'rollback' to the last one. Then like always, I must restart computer.

Except it won't restart no matter what I do. So I product recover again. Then it hits me: one of the first things I did the first time back was to move all my files back from the D drive, where they were apparently safe, to C, where they belong.

Every music, picture and word file I had on this computer is now gone. All of them. The rare Dubliners tracks, the rare Lizzy, the rare everything else that I don't have on CD or my own computer. The picture files- the giant Thin Lizzy computer wallpaper I made specially for this computer. Pictures so old I can't remember where I got them from. John Lennon demos. All of it.

And, my CV. My fucking CV. It wasn't on my computer, cos I don't have Word and my version of Works stopped working properly in terms of spellcheck and thesaurus. Fortunately, I just reinstalled Office on here and I was wise enough to email my CV to my Gmail account. It is not lost. All is not lost. All the things I actually care about are gone. I'm also worried that the computer isn't as sorted as I hoped, if WMP is not working. Fuckity bollocks. Any ideas, people? I really don't know all that much about computers, although my mum imagines me to be some sort of computer whiz able to fix anything. I don't know HTML apart from italics and bold.

Oh, and it looks like, given the fact I can't find the setup discs, that our printer is fucked. It was already- one has to hand feed the paper in lately and it doesn't always work that way.

I also missed tonight's Jack Dee: Live at the Apollo and I don't think it's getting repeated.

Good things: My mum & dad bought a DVD player at Costco tonight on special offer. I finally get to watch DVDs on a TV!!

Buzzcocks tonight was as funny as I hoped and needed it to be.

Seriously- I know some of you are really up on this stuff, so if you could help me with this fucking computer, I would appreciate it. The LAST thing we can afford is a new computer.

I think I might give it a rest for now... just in case. Night all

Had to recover computer again. I still don't reckon it's right, either. Might have to admit defeat and have my dad pay someone professional to sort it out. And my TV-video combo is chewing up tapes a bit to the point I can't bear to watch last night's Buzzcocks in case I fuck up the tape. I really just need to have the BBC ship me their Buzzcocks archive.

In the meantime:

01. Who are you?
02. Are we friends?
03. When and how did we meet?
04. Do you (or did you ever) have a crush on me?
05. Would you kiss me?
06. Describe me in one word
07. What was your first impression?
08. Do you still think that way about me now?
09. What reminds you of me?
10. If you could give me anything what would it be?
11. How well do you know me?
12. When's the last time you saw me?
13. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't?
14. Are you going to put this on your journal and see what I say about you?
