I-Spy, Vanilla Sky and Maura Kennealy Richards.
Saturday, 28 June 2003 02:18Hi all.
Saw I-Spy and Vanilla Sky tonight. Liked the former more than the latter, which was just plain fucking odd. Was not impressed by Tom Cruise playing against type. Don't care, pal. Even Paul McCartney's song at the end was mediocre. I-Spy at least had a few amusing moments: "Hey, this is a sock!" and of course Eddie Murphy's incessant "Hell, I'm Kelly Robinson 57 and 0!"
Anyway, the reason I'm here is because I was so bored earlier (don't have a tv, sob) that I completed a meme thing for Maura Kennealy as preparations for writing the HP DDD sequel. I know you're all heartily sick of hearing about that bloody story, but it is moving along and I'll shut up about it eventually. If I have time, (and I have no tv, so I will) you might get Harry, Hermione and Ron too.

Why?: Because she loves him. Because she feels cheated of a life she never even knew she wanted.

Greatest source of weakness in character's personality (whether s/he sees it as such or not: Bitterness.

Is this soft spot obvious to others?: She's got good at hiding her emotions. When she actually has emotions, that is.
If not, how does character hide it?: Most people don't know she even has a daughter.
Biggest vulnerability: Deirdre. Whether Maura's even realised it or not, she would willingly die for her daughter.

Introvert or extrovert: Both.

Mannerisms: Smirk and snarl.

Minor regrets: That she did end up so bitter and mean. Doesn't actually like how mean she is.
Biggest accomplishment: Defeating the so-called Old Enemy and later her role in the Second Voldemort War.
Minor accomplishments: Making friends.
SELF-PERCEPTION:
One word CHARACTER would use to describe self: Bitch.
One paragraph description of how CHARACTER would describe self: Ice-cold stone-hearted bitch.
What does CHARACTER consider best physical characteristic?: Her strength.
What does CHARACTER consider worst physical characteristic?: Her shortness. Doesn't feel she’s tall enough to be a warrior-hero.
Are these realistic assessments?: Yes and no.
If not, why not? Because she's not that short and because she's a warrior-hero anyway.
How CHARACTER thinks others perceive him/her: As a bitch.
What four things would CHARACTER most like to change about self? (#1 most
important, #2 second most important, etc.)
1. Be kinder.
2. Be more sensitive towards others.
3. To be less aggressive.
4. To not automatically wonder what's in it for people if they're nice to her.
Why? Because she's not that fond of who she is.
If change #1 was made, would character be as happy as s/he thinks?: Yes, probably.
If not, why not? If not it would be because Maura's brittleness is a major part of her.
INTERRELATION WITH OTHERS:
How does character relate to others?: Badly.
How is s/he perceived by...
Strangers?: As a bitch.
Friends?: She doesn't have any at first. When she does get some, they are able to see past the smart remarks.
Wife/Husband/Lover?: He's dead and he adored her. She still isn't sure why.
Hero/Heroine?: Harry sees her as something of a kindred spirit- they're both warriors for good and they've both suffered great personal losses.
How does character view hero/heroine?: She sees Harry as he sees her.
First impression: Harry dislikes her at first.
Why?: He finds her rude and obnoxious and mean. He's right. She’s also encroaching on his turf.
What happens to change this perception?: She defrosts a little and they get to know each other a little better. After her revelations of her past, it's much better.
What do family/friends like most about character?: She's really quite warm-hearted underneath it all. Just don't tell her I told you that.
What do family/friends like least about character?: She's sometimes really as bitter and horrid as she says she is. Less and less often, though. The trio are a good influence on her.
GOALS:
Immediate goals: To get the bad guy. In HP DDD, this is Voldemort, but it could be any generic evil-doer.
Long range goals: She doesn't really have any. Is a warrior and goes where the trouble is.
PROBLEMS/CRISES:
How character reacts in a crisis: "Where's me sword?"
How character faces problems: Head on.
Kinds of problems character usually runs into: Her own meanness. Also mystical evil.
How character reacts to NEW problems: Head on. No levels for Maura on this one.
How character reacts to change: Quite badly. She doesn't like change much, certainly not at first. But at the same time, she thrives on it- she gets bored easily.
GENERAL:
Favourite clothing: Dragonhide trousers she was given for the final battle. Also her black boots.
Why?: Hardwearing and look quite cool.
Least favourite clothing: Dresses, especially flower-print ones.
Why?: Do they strike you as something she'd wear? I rest my case.
Jewellery: A gold cross given to her by George as an engagement present. That’s the engagement that lasted two whole hours. And also, post HP DDD her wedding ring, a plain gold band which George promised to have engraved after the battle. He never survived, the ring never got engraved.
Other accessories: None. Not an accessories person unless you count the dagger in her boot as an accessory.
Drives: She doesn't drive. She doesn't need to and would be bad at it if she did. Hello to the road rage!
Where does character live?: Post HP DDD she stays with Narcissa (her late husband's cousin) before being given Connaught Manor in Co. Galway, a house that comes with being the Heir of Maeve.
Where does character want to live?: Actually, she loves her house right by the sea in Co. Galway.
Spending habits (frugal, spendthrift, etc): She's pretty careful with money not because she has a thing about thrift, just that she has pretty simple tastes.
What does s/he do too much of?: Being cold-hearted and mean.
Too little of?: Hugging and general niceness.
Most prized possession: The Connaught Shield and the sword of Ulster.
Why? The former because she had to go to such lengths to get it and because it's cool and part of her destiny. The latter because it used to be George’s and she's its bearer until Deirdre grows up.
UNCATEGORIZED:
Person character secretly admires: Hermione, although it's not really that secret.
Why?: Hermione is almost everything that Maura is not.
Person character was most influenced by: George.
Why?:Before George, she didn't believe she was capable of love or feeling or even of changing who she was. Before George she was just Bitter-bitch!Maura. He proved her wrong, but most of all showed her that someone could love her.
Most important person in character's life before story starts: Deirdre and George.
Why? I think I've said why already. It's really not too complicated.
How does character spend the week before the story starts?: The week before she arrives at Hogwarts, you mean? She gets summoned from wherever she is (I suspect the Richards' house) and gets told her new assignment by her Guardians.
That's it. I could write ones for the rest of the diamond if you liked this. I really have nothing better to do with my life.

Date: 2003-06-28 14:43 (UTC)I always hated the name Moira, so to like the name Maura has always struck me as odd. Mind you, I am odd!
And anyway, it's all pretty much inspired by your LIAB memes, so I'm gonna blame you!
Stay lucky mate,
Clare.
