apollaThis was in the Times' T2 supplement today in a column called 'Microwave Man'.
Go on, be honest. It's January 1971 and who would you rather be? The admittedly camp but libidinously heterosexual Robert Plant, tight-trousered front-man of the Valhalla-bound Led Zeppelin, soaring vocal foil to the screaming demons of Jimmy Page's Gibson Les Paul and official wielder of the hammer of the gods? Or Clive Dunn, one moment mincing around Walmington-On-Sea as annoying Lance Corporal Jones in the BBC s*itcom Dad's Army and the next, astoundingly, seizing the No 1 spot in the British charts for three weeks with 'Grandad', the most sickening, saccharine suicide-induging song known to man?
