Fabulous story ahead...
Friday, 5 March 2004 22:20Disgusterous flatmates thing half resolved. Will be sorted out more tomorrow when the res. tutor comes to check that all the rubbish has been taken out. As a gesture of goodwill, I took out a couple of bags with one of the dudes who says he never uses the kitchen either. I bet it's the two guys that weren't even in when the tutor called round. I wash my hands of it.
Anyway, have to tell you this fabulous story from last night. So I'm talking to
anne53714 about singing sibling groups and mention the Andrews Sisters. Now, I really like them, so I go off to download some stuff. I find Chattanooga Choo Choo, a song I love. I thusly download and it goes real quick and I listen. About a minute of instrumental stuff is followed by the line "Hi there Dean, what you say?"
Now, I've heard many versions of this song, but the one I'm most used to is a Glenn Miller Orchestra version where it's Tex... something (can never remember the dude's surname). So I hear 'Dean' and for a tense second I'm dying for the next line: "Step aside partner, it's my day..." to see if it's the Dean I think/hope/wish it will be.
And it was. Sounding a little less Dino than I'm used to (if it's earlier work, the drawl and croon was less pronounced). And it was Dean. I wasn't expecting it- I didn't even know he'd recorded it, you know? And it was Dean.
anne53714 can vouch for my particularly over-the-top reaction (what, you're shocked and surprised?). It's moments like this I live for... when you get such a fantastic surprise that you weren't expecting, didn't even need... and it's a favourite swing song sung by your favourite singer girls and it's Dean.
And that's my fabulous story. On another note, classes today were the height of dull, but I don't care and neither do you.
PS... One day I'm going to record Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy myself. Maybe I'll get Jools Holland to play piano for me.
