apollaHaven't updated for awhile. Mind you, now I'm sat here waiting for three (count em, THREE sources to call back and two to email me back) sources to call back I have time on my hands. Well, I'm meant to be doing Law revision but I know I won't be able to concentrate on that until later.
Saw Hollywood Homicide and Four Feathers the other day. Both come under category of "Not Bad But Hardly Earthshattering". HH couldn't decide what kind of movie it wanted to be which was a shame cos both Harrison Ford and Josh 'Nice Hair at Last' Hartnett were pretty good. FF on the other hand, was an odd film that didn't seem to know how it wanted to deal with British imperialism and the concept of cowardice. Perhaps we British just don't know how to deal with imperialism.
Then yesterday/today I saw American Pie: The Wedding, Two Weeks Notice and To Kill a King. AP was exactly as I imagined it would be: very funny for a couple of moments but otherwise pretty unimpressive. I believe Stifler is a very funny character but I could've done without the shite-eating. I've seen TWN before but I needed something light and fluffy. It's quite good really and very funny in some bits. Hugh Grant isn't even close to being on my favourites list but he was good in this film. Could've done without the Sandy Bullock needing to shite in a mobile home scene, frankly. What is it with movies nowadays being obsessed with shite?
To Kill a King was a good film, but far too slow in places, as you might expect from a film about Oliver 'Evil Wanker' Cromwell, Thomas Fairfax and the post-Civil War question of what to do about Charles I. It was OK and the performances were excellent, not least from a luscious-haired Dougray Scott as Fairfax and Rupert Everett's turn as Charles. Not overly fond of Olivia Williams though and I wasn't ever going to like Tim Roth as Oliver 'Murdering Bastard' Cromwell, not because of Tim Roth who is a great actor, but because of Oliver 'Hypocritical Power-Hungry Blood-thirsty Tyrannical Fucker' Cromwell himself.
Also, I may have some music to share with you soon. I hope.
