Am listening to The Beatles Live at the BBC for the first time in yonks, as we say in Britain.

I am reminded that fancy vocoders and computer wizardry is not required for good music. Music that stirs your blood can be made on two guitars, a bass and a set of drums and nothing more. Music that lifts your heart can be recorded in a shack somewhere. Music that blows apart brick buildings does not require anything but passion and a modicum of talent.

You don't need machines to get people in harmony, just fucking practice and hard work.

I love Sgt. Pepper, I really do, it might even be art. But it doesn't make my soul sing out like those Beatle people playing real 'old skool' rock and roll does. Some of it might be covers, but so the fuck what- cover version does not always equal shite version, but we've become so poisoned by what passes for covers nowadays.

Rock and roll, real, honest to God rock and roll can do all those things and scare the Establishment shitless. A bargain, if you ask me.

I'm going to go back to my articles now.

PS. My journal title, Whistling Clarabella is a reference to the Live at the BBC set.

John Lennon: Dig this, for here's Paul, whistling Clarabella.

:D
