HAPPY BIRTHDAY YASMIN!
Saturday, 5 April 2003 03:12HAPPY BIRTHDAY YASMIN! Hope you have a v v cool day!
And now... I am truly bored....
1. If you could build a house anywhere, where would it be?
A little island off the North/West coast of Ireland... Or failing that, right on the coast in Co. Galway... Failing that, on the shores of Lake Corrib. I think I'd like to be next to the water, which is weird because I never thought I was fond of it and I can't swim too well. I'd just like to sit by it, I guess.
2. What's your favourite article of clothing?
My Irish rugby shirt. Don't understand rugby, don't like it, don't care about rugby. But it's my Ireland shirt and I love it.
3. What's your favourite physical feature of the opposite sex?
Ummm... I don't really know. Perhaps the smile. Jim Morrison got me with his. It never showed itself often but when it did... it's a beautiful thing to behold. Smiles... Errol's grin, Clark Gable's smirk, Bowie's odd beam, I could go on. I think I just like smiles, to be honest.
4. What's the last CD that you bought?
You know, I don't know. I bought my mum the Chicago soundtrack for Mother's Day... One for me? I've been downloading songs since I got home and the HMV in Lancaster hardly ever has stuff I want. I think the last one might actually be Van Morrison and the Chieftains way back in February. I own so many CDs now I'm running out of ones to buy!
5. Where's your favourite place to be?
Hmmm. Pat answer is usually bed, but.... yeah, it's bed. Bed with my computer beside me and Buzzcocks on me telly.
6. Where's your least favourite place to be?
Anywhere before midday. Alternately? Um... a Phil Collins concert? That sounds pretty bloody awful to me.
7. What's your favourite place to be massaged?
Never had a massage and don't really care much about that. Don't see the point myself. Perhaps it's that I'm so laidback I'm not in need of them. Perhaps it's that nobody's offered. Must be the first one.
8. What's most important, strong in mind or strong in body?
Mind. I am living proof that an iron will can compensate for a pretty weak body. If you want to, you can do anything.
9. What time do you wake in the morning?
Morning? Well, usually I wake at anytime between midday and 1.30pm.
10. What is your favourite TV show?
Never Mind the Buzzcocks, a British TV comedy music quiz in which Mark Lamarr is cynical, sarky and insults everyone ever, Phill Jupitus does the intros to songs badly, Billl Bailey makes reference to LotR and guests ritually humiliate (or occasionally redeem) themselves. It's TV genius. Also Porridge, Only Fools and Horses, the now defunct Ally McBeal and of course Friends.
11. What's your favourite kitchen appliance?
Well the most fun is the blender but most useful is the microwave.
12. What's your favourite childhood memory?
Oooh. Lots of those, at least until about 1993. One of the earliest things I remember is walking with my gran through Hackney to my great Aunt Lily's house. Or the infamous dead bee, tcp combo. Most of the best stuff happened here though with Richard when we were inseparable partners in crime.
13. What makes you laugh?
Mark Lamarr. Ronnie Barker. My pal John who is as crazy as me.
14. What makes you really angry?
Gareth Gates, Will Young. This 'band' going around America parading as The Doors. People who dismiss Errol Flynn as a phallic joke. Ditto Jim Morrison. Catherine Zeta-Jones trying to persuade us she's still a 'Swansea girl'. I'm not buying it love.
15. If you could play any instrument what would it be?
Well, I can already play the guitar and the keyboard to varying degrees of success. I think I'd like to learn to play the mandolin and the bass guitar.
16. Favourite restaurant/cafe/eatery?
California Pizza Kitchen.
17. Scariest moment in life?
Don't know. Not much scares me and not much ever has.
18. If there is a movie made about you, what current/ former Hollywood star would play you?
Well you see, I'm going to be a big movie star myself. I wouldn't play myself of course. I'd be sure I had script approval though! Someone cool but entirely mad would do. Hey, perhaps I'll become a big movie star, marrying somone equally as cool, have a talented daughter who would then play me, like Geraldine Chapln played her father's mother in Chaplin. Or not.
19. Do you believe in an Afterlife?
Yes. I believe that Dean, Errol and Jim are at the bar waiting for me. The Richards Burton and Harris are in the same bar. :)
20.What is your favourite season?
Hmmm. I don't really notice seasons. We have them of course, but I don't notice. Summer probably, because it's only when the sun comes out that Britain stops being so fucking grumpy.
21. Favourite children's Book?
I used to love Sweet Valley (I know, I know) because I took it on my own level and paid no attention to the stupid clique stuff. It was a better view of secondary education than the one I was going through. Used to love the Famous Five and Mallory Towers before that. Now it's no contest- perhaps you've heard about these books about a magical kid with messy hair? No? I'm not surprised, they're only a cult thing.
22. What is your least favourite household chore?
Laundry. It's dull and boring and I hate it, mostly because I have to take my stuff to the laundrette when at uni.
23. If you could have a super power what would it be?
The ability to travel through time at will.
24. If you have a tattoo, what is it?
Don't have one. If I did, I'd probably get something celtic and I'd get it on my ankle, because it really hurts there and it would be my way of showing how hard I am.
25. Who was your first love and at what age?
When I was seven years old I fell in love with Jason Donovan. I can laugh about it now.
26. The song you had wished you had written?
Umm... There's a few, but perhaps Watching the Wheels by John Lennon or any of the songs that make me want to stop walking along the street, sit down and sob for the injustice or beauty in the world. I've got IT! American Pie, by Don McLean. In seven minutes he wrote me a thank you to my rock and roll boys. One day I'd like to write that well. I also like his Castles in the Air. It reminds me of the desire I have to escape to somewhere isolated in Eire.
27. What's in the trunk of your car?
I don't have a car and if it did it would have a boot. But even if I did have a car, the boot would be filled with random crap.
28. What is your favourite day?
The days, like seasons, bleed into each other for me. Monday at 9pm when Buzzcocks is on and Friday at 9 when Friends is on are particular high points of the week. See also: various dinnertimes. Me like food.
29. Using only one word describe your self?
Ultimately, one word? Dreamer.
Cool thing happened today. Yesterday I mentioned to my dad that I liked the West Wing when the ad came on telly for Season Two Part One on DVD. Today he came home with the entire first series on DVD. Ain't I got a cool dad? I think so. The increasing cuteness of my brother was further evidenced today when he cooked his chick dinner. He's becoming a sweet, thoughtful young man and quite honestly it's driving me crazy!
I'm off to Slough on Sunday to see me best mate Natasha while she's in this part of the country. She said we'll probably go to Windsor (they have, in addition to a big castle, a Starbucks apparently) and maybe even to Legoland. How cool would that be? :D
Until tomorrow, my friends.
