Because I'm bored, because spending time with my entire family (all three of them) already seems to suck, I compiled this list. Jumping on the bandwagon, probably. Boring, entirely possible. Amusing, hopefully.

100 Things About Me

1. I was adopted at birth.
2. My birth parents are both from Galway in Ireland.
3. My 'actual' family is from London, Limavady (N. Ireland), Co. Cork (a few generations back, to be fair) and Pula in Croatia.
4. I'm Irish but I've never actually been to Ireland.
5. I hope to remedy that very soon.
6. I'm the most cynical person I know of. Including Bob Dylan.
7. I'm a dreamer.
8. I'm also particularly narcississtic. This activity appeals to my Inner Narcissa.
9. I genuinely have no fear of dying.
10. I was born and raised a Catholic.
11. I consider myself to be Catholic but I haven't gone to church for sometime. Call them issues.
12. My godfather is a Catholic priest in London.
13. I personally believe that every single religion is actually praying to the same God. We're all taking different routes, that's all.
14. There's nothing that offends me more than people using religion as an excuse for war. It's just an excuse, not a reason.
15. I'm deeply ashamed of the violence that has marred Ireland for centuries.
16. The Irish side of me mostly blames the English. The English side can't find much of a counter-argument.
17. Certain PE teachers at my old school were, I discovered, particularly racist towards the Irish. I really gained new respect for anyone 'of colour' after that. At least I could ignore him. I can hide what I am if I choose to where some people can't. But I don't hide it.
18. I think racism and intolerance more generally are the blight of our planet. It's not what you are, it's who you are.
19. I've known my best friend since I was six years old.
20. We spent the first five/six years of Secondary school not seeing each other at all.
21. It's one of my greatest regrets.
22. I was universally ostracised at secondary school because I have a big mouth and actual opinions.
23. I'm still recovering from those seven years.
24. John Lennon saved me from the very real, somewhat debilitating depression I had because of school. Well, him and his mates, to be fair.
25. I recognise in John Lennon things I see in myself, good and bad: cynicism, wit, sarcasm, an angry, violent nature. Creativity, dreaming, idealism, anti-establishment feelings. Maybe even flashes of genius :)
27. I see in George Harrison things I aspire to, good and bad: spirituality, tranquillity, dedication, perfectionism, cynicism, sharp wit, grumpiness of a high standard.
28. I see in Jim Morrison things I see in myself- mostly the bad. Which is why I won't drink.
29. I once had a dream in which I helped Jim Morrison get off drink and drugs. I woke up before I could find out if it worked or not. It seems to have stuck in my mind.
30. Most of the people I care about even remotely are musicians and actors.
31. Most of them are dead.
32. Two of the people I care most about, Dean Martin, and Errol Flynn would actually be older than each of my grandparents.
33. Of my four grandparents, two died before I was born and one died nearly two years ago.
34. I seem to think about death quite a lot, but I'm really not morbid at all. Just an occupational hazard that comes from having people like Lennon, Morrison and Flynn as heroes.
35. I believe in heroes. I... I will be king. :)
36. I believe in human, flawed, tragic heroes like John, Jim and the rest.
37. I am three months short of my 21st birthday and as yet have not been asked out, kissed or any such dating related stuff.
38. I really don't mind.
39. Everyone that ever meets me thinks I'm mostly insane. They're mostly right.
40. I rarely take anything seriously.
41. I'm so dryly sarcastic most of the time that people don't know when to believe me. That's sarcastic in the proper British sense :).
42. I spent an academic year at UC Irvine.
43. I wanted to go to UCLA.
44. It's my real dream to write and act in movies.
45. It's my real dream to become a rock singer like Robert Plant and Jim Morrison.
46. I have no idea how to get into either.
47. I write in sequence and rarely write a piece and slot it into a story/essay/whatever. Stream of Consciousness is my middle name. Actually, it's Marie, but whatever.
48. I rarely read through my work once it's done. I do it during instead. I know this is bad.
49. I believe in the movies.
50. Most of my favourite movies were made in the 30s/40s.
51. I own well over 200 movies on video. So replacing them with DVDs is going to be a bitch.
52. I'm really not that bad a singer, you know. Sadly, being a girl, I really can't reach some of the low notes.
53. I wish I could sing like Judy Garland, but I know that won't ever happen.
54. I could probably have quite a good career as a stand-up comedian.
55. I've been told that if I work quite hard, I'll get a First for my degree, BA American Studies.
56. The last thing I want to do is work hard.
57. My mum is already bugging me about what I'm going to do once I have my degree in June.
58. Aside from rock music and the actor's life, I don't know.
59. Aside from being a writer, there is nothing else I want to do.
60. I have never been able to contemplate having a normal life.
61. Besides, I think I'd make a bloody awful housewife- I can barely iron properly.
62. And I'd make an even worse mother.
63. I've been in the Girl Guide Association since I became a Brownie in about 1989.
64. I've been abseiling in a thunderstorm.
65. I've rowed 10 and a half miles in one day. My arms didn't half hurt.
66. I'm a terrible swimmer. I spent 10 and a half miles wishing and hoping I didn't fall into the River Wye.
67. I hate cheese. If I eat it I have the sudden urge to vomit.
68. I can handle pepperoni pizza if there's lots of toppings to counteract any cheese taste/texture.
69. I am off-the-chart weird. And I know it.
70. I spent eight years learning classical guitar. I only gave up because I went off to university.
71. I can't, however, play fairly simple chords. Sounds stupid, but it wasn't the way I was taught.
72. I can play keyboard fairly well. Haven't done for awhile.
73. I think the most beautiful woman to have ever walked the earth is Ava Gardner.
74. Marilyn Monroe is a close second.
75. Errol Flynn is the most beautiful man ever to have graced the earth. Even Ava said so.
76. Jim Morrison is a close second.
77. My favourite poet is WB Yeats. One of my favourite rock bands is Thin Lizzy
78. I appear to be rather obessed with the Irish Celts and Ireland more generally. Apparently, I may have issues.
79. I'm writing a book set in about 24 BC involving two fictional lands, one Irish Celt Queen, one heroic prince, a bitter, twisted and evil King and several thousand slightly mean Romans.
80. I've finished my Harry Potter fanfiction. It's 211 pages long.
81. I'm writing the sequel.
82. I have fifty pages of related ficlets. Whether they're any good....
83. I seem to have a thing for Richards: my best friend Richard, Richard Burton, Richard Harris...
84. I'm a Tottenham Hotspur fan, but I've never been to a game. They usually lose anyway.
85. I'm bad luck. Whenever I watch sport, whoever I'm rooting for loses. Like Ronnie O'Sullivan, the England football team, the Irish football team, Spurs, the North West regional weasel chasing team... OK, I made that last one up.
86. The first person I ever fell in love with was Jason Donovan. I was seven years old and he was the latest popstar teen idol.
87. For reasons pertaining to Jason Donovan and a film called The Delinquents, I will probably despise Kylie for the rest of my life.
88. I also cannot stand Russell Crowe. Or Gwyneth Paltrow. Or Catherine Zeta-Jones. There's a list somewhere.......
89. I have a truly terrible, vicious, angry, violent temper.
90. I've spent the last twenty years trying to learn to control it.
91. The only thing that can really calm me down is Dean Martin music.
92. I have an inexplicable weakness for Labyrinth.
93. Actually, it's perfectly explainable: David Bowie. Blond wig. Ambiguously 'evil' King. A fairy tale. The tights, however, have nothing to do with it.
94. I think Keef Richards is way cooler than Mick Jagger.
95. I am actually addicted to Diet Coke.
96. Parma ham and Irish brown soda bread fried together in butter and served with salad is my new culinary creation. It's fabulous
97. My obsessions usually last about one and a half to two years before calming down. Examples: The Titanic (not the sucky movie), the Beatles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Harry Potter should keep me in his grip until about June 2004. But then PoA The Movie will be out and I'll be all right.
98. I don't do crying.
99. Except when Beatles die.
100. It's my considered opinion that I will be alone for the rest of my life. And I really don't mind anymore.
101. I'd dearly love to go and live on a little uninhabited island of the coast of Ireland (There's some on the W Coast) and live there. I'd keep a goat, grow potatoes, make stuff like bread (I can learn) and row ashore once a week for supplies. And I'd have an internet connection to keep me connected with the world.

And until next time, my friends: Stay Lucky.
