I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAACK

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] marquiserachel for her previous post and for making me spend twenty quid on a phone call. Appreciate it, love!

Yes, I'm sure you've all been relishing the peace and quiet, but I'm back and here to bloody well stay. Let me briefly fill you in.

I arrived in Sunderland on Thursday afternoon with relative ease. Found that I could not set up my internet until I was enrolled, which wasn't going to happen until the next day. Could not sign up at the library or collect my USSU card until I was enrolled. So I therefore slinked back to my room with a Tesco's salad because I had nothing to eat with/on and that was about all I could have. I was, by this point absolutely exhausted from everything I'd been dealing with over the previous days and so after discovering that I had been 'loaned' thirty quid electricity, I went the hell to bed, but not before noticing the disgusting state of the kitchen and noting that there was no cupboard/fridge/freezer space for me- the other four had taken it all up.

Friday, I enrolled. Took my computer in to get set up on the internet. Met [livejournal.com profile] emony (EDIOT: That's EmoNy not EmoRy. Emony is a fab chick, Emory is a university.) and thus got the first R/Hr shipper onto my LJ friends list!! Discovered we also had Buffy and Angel in common as well as a desire to write stuff. Was lovely to meet someone who didn't recoil in horror at the word 'fanfic' as well. Went here there and everywhere to set stuff up, discovered also that I had been put in the morning group for classes. Went to town for various things I now can't remember and then went the hell to sleep again.

A quick run down of an MA Journalism class: Eight hours of shorthand classes a week, three-hour class at five pm called Media In Society, two three-hour and two one-hour classes for 'Principles and Practice' and two two-hour classes for Journalism Law. That's just this semester. By March I have to have a speed of 100 words per minute or better of shorthand and I've never done it before. Kill moi now.

Anyway, on Saturday my mum and dad drove up with all my stuff and when they saw the state of the kitchen went absolutely fucking mad, partly because the rules are real clear on no smoking in communal areas- the ktichen, basically. They'd been smoking in there and my room thus stank of stale smoke. The kitchen was filthy and despite an assurance from the one person I'd met in there, there was still no cupboard/fridge/freezer space. My mum marched straight down to reception to demand to speak to someone. Cut a long story short... she demanded I be moved... Cut it really short, that's happening tomorrow and I have to move all my stuff without any help from this building to the one opposite. I hope I don't have a room at the other end of the building.

Anyway, I've only just got internet access in my room this afternoon. I only got onto the internet at all yesterday morning because it takes 24 hours after getting your library card for your computer access there to be validated. Found I had 297 emails. Once I'd got rid of the junk, I had about 100. Found I had pages and pages on my Friends Page to sift through, mostly baseball related, it seems!

Briefly, because I'm not a fan of politics unless it's on The West Wing, I agree with what most people have said about Barmy Bush's Marriage Protection Week. I also agree with most people about Governor-Elect Sweatshisknickers. Considering I'm now a journalist-in-training I should probably care more, but I really don't! Seriously- there's nobody on this planet who has the right to judge what a family really is beyond the concept of love. I would very much like to know what Dubya Shrub thinks of other unconventional families beyond the obvious- my brother and I are adopted, does that make our family 'less than'? Because if so, I would very much like to tell my mother that and then sic her on him. Nobody has the right to judge anyone else's family.

Anything else? Oh!! The LG Cup snooker tournament started in Preston on Saturday and aside from Ronnie O'Sullivan's surprise conversion to Islam (if it means he finds the peace of mind he's been searching for all his life, more power to him), the big talking points seem to be his hair band and Paul Hunter's Beckhamesque braids. I thought this was snooker, man! Anyway, as none of you care, I shall not beat you over the head with it all.EDIT: Just reading, like a geek, the results of the LG Cup so far on World Snooker.Com and the piece about the O'Sullivan-Harold game pointed out that the Rocket hasn't actually converted apparently. Either way, his hairband is quite weird but he looks better than he has done. More importantly, he beat Dave Harold 5-0.

I will be back, probably tomorrow. You may have thought you'd got rid of me. You weren't that lucky.

*cough* I'm going to forgive you, because I'm fabulous, but that's totally not how you spell my name ;)

Am an idiot who isn't paying attention. Consider it sorted out right about now.

No problem *g* Just don't want people getting confused and thinking I'm some bloke called Andrew Emory who hasn't posted since late 01 ;)

<3 <3 <3 smooches my wooblet!!

Damn it's been boring without you :-( I'm glad you're up in Sunderland unsundered ;-) (all in one piece) Though I don't exactly understand your living arrangement - are you in a dormitory or a student hotel or what??

Anyway...I got a small amount more done on LITTB04 (Hagrid's there! yaay!) and also got an NC-17 plot bunny *snerk* (Remember the end of JUST DESSERTS?? It begins where that left off ;-) Buzz me sometime, chica.

Glad to have you back :)

*hugs*

I love baseball meself (go Yankees! No, I'm not a gloryseeker at all!) but I haven't been paying much attention this season and so have no clue what's been going on.

Speak to you soon mate!

[identity profile] gryffinseye.livejournal.com 2003-10-08 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yankees? YANKEES?

Them's fightin' words. =P

Quick Catchup. As I'm writing this, the Yankees are taking the field to face the Red Sox for the first game of the American League Championship Series, with the winner taking the AL Pennant and going on to the World Series ten days from now.

GO SOX :D

[identity profile] apolla.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Fightin' words? Let me see if I can't do better then:

THE YANKEES RULE ALL!

[identity profile] gryffinseye.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously they don't rule the Red Sox.

We kicked your Yankee asses 5-2.

:P

Missed you too. How is college life over there, dear?

[identity profile] sugarjet03.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Busy and tiring, but good :-) I am looking forward to fall break though, because it'll be nice to get away from the daily grind. It's just that midterm time is getting to me, really.

[identity profile] lissannej.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's so good to have you back! *hugs*

*hugs again*

[identity profile] lissannej.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Missed you too :* I'm doing okay, looking forward to catching up on my sleep this weekend. Nan's doing okay, she's had some bad days which is to be expected after treatment, but we're hanging in there :)

*more hugs*

[identity profile] marquiserachel.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I resent that! I completely did not MAKE you spend twenty quid on that phone call! I'm just too fabulous to not speak to for over an hour. And I fully intend to spend at least that much next time we talk.
Glad you're getting moved... too much rice in one kitchen is baaaaaaaaaad!
xxxxxxxxxxx

[identity profile] apolla.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
You so did make me spend twenty quid and so therefore, I say to thee: sod off. :D

Am moving today- once I'm out of the class I'm currently in. I have class on computers, how cool is that?

[identity profile] ladyaeryn.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome back! :)

*also waves B/A flag*

[identity profile] apolla.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

And where did that new pic in your icon come from? Am I missing something?

[identity profile] ladyaeryn.livejournal.com 2003-10-09 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a production shot from Episode III released last week (to the people paying for content on the official site). :D

[identity profile] apolla.livejournal.com 2003-10-10 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. That would mean giving money to George Lucas, however indirectly, right? Can't be doing with that- he's quite rich enough already.

*slips on wet soapbox and falls down.*

[identity profile] ladyaeryn.livejournal.com 2003-10-10 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* $20 a year makes no diff to me.

Especially if I get pretty pics like that. ;)
