WHAT THE FUCK IS THE 'FAMILY MOVIE ACT'?

ARE THEY FUCKING KIDDING ME? ARE THEY KIDDING ME? DID WE ACTUALLY RESURRECT JOE MCCARTHY AND HIS MATES AND GIVE THEM TECHNOLOGY?

A good point: "Hollywood isn't made on politics, it's made on profit. If Mussolini's dog came in with a script and it was good, they'd make him a producer and making it."

Another good point: If you are a parent and you do not approve of sections of a film for your children: DON'T LET THEM WATCH IT! Every kid is different. My brother was watching Robocop when he was eight, I didn't and was older. I liked Tommy, it freaked Mikey out. Allowing children to watch a film with sex or whatever but making them miss the 'naughty' scenes is liable to just confuse them.

Come on, guys, let's not be stupid. If it's not suitable for your children in its entirety, don't let them watch it. Then, when they've reached majority, they can decide for themselves. That's what FREE SPEECH is about.

And don't get me started on potential copyright issues.

To... I'm too fuckin angry. This is what tars the Repubs and the 'religious right' and 'middle America' with the same nasty brush. This is what makes Founders roll in their graves.

What the hell is this? It sounds mad mad mad! Honestly, it's up to the parents what their children watch until the children become old enough to chose for themselves. And really, everyone reacts differently to different films. I was seriously upset by a cartoon I saw on TV when I was about 6, my mum was traumatised by Bambi as a kid. Ugh ugh ugh.

I have no idea. I didn't have a TV so it was at my uncle's. It was on in the early afternoon and was about yellow people (I think) though I don't see any way it could have been the Simpsons in hindsight. My memories are very hazy. There were two scientists (Australian I think) who were trying to cure a disease in a massive mad scientists' laboratory in the middle of the outback. Then the sidekick caught the virus and they had about two days to cure it. There was someone evil I think who was spreading it and was going to unleash it on the audience in an opera house in the city and they had to get there before the fat lady sang and then they could destroy what was causing it and save the sidekick. There could have been a smart female scientist as well but I could be making that bit up. Anyway, they had to race across the dessert in the laboratory somehow... possibly... and they got to the opera house just as the fat lady was standing on the towers with a viking helmet and all and they had to fight backstage with the Evil Villain and all the while the side kick was getting weaker and weaker. I can't remember how it ended though I imagine they defeated the evil and all lived happily ever after.

It really, really scared me. I'm still more scared about the prospect of disease than perhaps I should be and poisons and things you can't see but are dangerous. I don't know how much of that is actually to do with that cartoon though. Must have been about 93/94 I would imagine. Of course, I could be making all that up. It was a long time ago.
