You know I'm going crazy when...
Friday, 24 September 2004 17:30Aside from dancing in the living room at 4am to Michael by Franz Ferdinand....
Huey Lewis and The News are on Vh1 Classic right now with 'The Power of Love'. You know, the one at the start of Back to the Future. I've always hated that song. I've never liked Huey Lewis. I can't even summon affection for the song from a childhood watching a taped-off-the-telly version of Back to the Future. I just hate the soft-rock 80s pap.
And yet, I smiled. Why? Because Huey was pals with Philip Lynott. Good, musical pals. He adored Philip and was one of the few people who remembered to thank him at an awards ceremony not long after he died. He used to wear a pair of Phil's boots on stage. He was sweet to Phil's mum. Stuff like that. So when I saw it was him, I didn't run screaming from the television. I sat, smiled and practically saluted Huey.
I fucking hate the world. Note: this does not mean I like Midge Ure or Mark Knopfler because they played with Philip. He helped a lot of young musicians back in the late 70s... but only Huey seems to have remembered the debt he owed Philip.
But I must still be going mad. Am off to try and set up new DVD player downstairs.
