Huh?

I received this review for Harry Potter and the Daoimear de Dan the other day and finally got round to going and reading it:

The one problem is that there was a lack of Star Wars love in the fic. However I loved it and thought it was one of the most creative pieces I have ever read.

WTF? What has Star Wars got to do with it? Did I slip in some of my anti-Lucas rhetoric into the fic without noticing? Why did nobody tell me?

Or alternatively, what is this reviewer on? Still it's a perfectly lovely review, so I'm off to bask in some smugness for a bit. Or I would if there weren't a thing about Auschwitz on. That really does suck the humour out of me. If only I could look upon it with the same blase attitude as the third in line to the throne.

But then, I've been there. I've seen the lines of horrible wooden sheds not fit for animals, let alone people. I've touched the cold metal spikes of the railroad, and I've seen the piles of boots, spectacles, suitcases and other things that represent people. My grandmother came *this* close to being sent there. Only the fact that her cousin shared the same name saved my beautiful grandmother, Maria Kobaich of the Croatian resistance so she could meet my sniper/signalman grandfather as he made his way through the war.

Funny isn't it? So many people were killed there, so many people incarcerated there, that even a little London Irish Catholic girl in 2004, like me, has a link to that temple of human hatred and atrocity.

This was originally going to be a post about a review I got, but I suddenly really, really don't give a shit anymore.

Please, prove me wrong about humanity. Prove to me, one and all, that the majority will never forget. That Prince Harry is the exception, not the rule.

Hmm. Maybe there was a concept in the story that the reader thought was SW-ish but wasn't painted in a favorable light? *shrugs* Go figure. Some reviews are just weird. I once got a review that said a fluffy H/Hr piece I wrote sickened them because they couldn't picture Dan and Emma doing those things. Heh. As if it were somehow my fault they were picturing D/E.

Dude, for sure. I went to Dachau when I was in Germany - seeing the ovens, the stains on the walls, the 'experimenting' rooms *shudder*, the tiny beds they crammed people into six at a time... I can only imagine seeing Auschwitz (and having a personal connection to it) must have been even worse. (I can't believe the German exchange teacher we were with thought we Americans were going to 'laugh' at the whole thing.)

Harry could have done a lot worse, definitely, but he really should have known better. I'm not sure how any half-educated person couldn't know wearing something like that, for whatever the reason, wouldn't be considered offensive.
