Because it's too true as far as I'm concerned:

ireland is love

And yes, that was absolutely my first try. Had no idea what I was doing.

In other Clarenews- I actually had a JOB interview today. It was OK. It was for an information/news agency near Canary Wharf. Basically you sit in an office and regurgitate the news for clients. Whatever.

Am very tired like always. The other woman who sort of shares my job at Three Valleys Water has been off sick, so yesterday I did EVERYTHING, which was difficult considering I don't know half the stuff. I was so busy at one point doing everything that one of the blokes in the office made a point of saying I was doing a good job. I suspect this was to make me feel better, which I do appreciate. Mind you, there's some stuff that the other woman does that NOBODY else knew how to do. Isn't that insane? That only one person actually knows? I dread to think what happened today if she was still sick- neither of us would've been there to sort it out- and some of the defects we deal with have 2 hour deadlines. I think the word we're all looking for is: bollocks.

Have written some more of my original, probably shit, story. Sneaked bits in at work over the last few days and emailed it to myself. With the exception of the Halloween drabble,I haven't done any HP stuff for literally months and haven't started the Christmas challenge yet. Just as well nobody actually reads my Sequel that Actually Seems to Have Fucked Off and Died a Death.

Also, if any of you are Shane MacGowan fans, might I suggest a trip to www.shanemacgowan.com and then reading about the petition to get his 'manager' fired? It's very interesting and you might care to sign the petition. Just for those of you who like the guy.

*hugs to you all*

Music: And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda - the Pogues

As this song is a very solemn one, it makes me wonder how this band performs it.

Slowly, with feeling. Not much in the way of instrumentation. Rough and very, very emotional. I still prefer the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem version, which makes me want to cry every time they get to the bit where they actually sing WM. I just can't hear that song the same way since.

For mine, you can't go past the guy who wrote it, Eric Bogle, an expat Irishman who has been an Australian citizen for as long as I can remember.

I read that petition thing on his website a week or two ago, but I was confused. What's going on, is there some sort of article or writeup that I missed?

From what I've discerned from the links to articles on the site, this 'manager' is little more than a hanger-on who's hung on long enough to get some power, and isn't doing a very good job. Aside from not bothering to tell Shane's own fan club when gigs are, he doesn't get Shane good gigs, he doesn't encourage him to turn up to said gigs when he gets them and is a less than good influence on a man who's had his battles with chemical demons. Whatever's going on, Shane's dad and family feel they're having to do this- and that says a great deal to me.

I don't know how well it will work, but at least they're doing it. I have a list of people I wish this had been done for before it was too late. Shane deserves the best and he's not getting it.

Wow. I didn't realize it was something coming directly from Shane's dad and family. I will go sign right away and try to get the word out. Shane absolutely deserves the best!

Yes he does. I don't want him becoming as much of a Drunken Cliche as dear James Morrison.

Eamon Campbell from the Dubliners has signed it too, and much further down there's a 'Tom Waits, USA'. Can't tell if it's THE Tom Waits, though.

Are you 4055? You're five places ahead of me- what I get for waiting until after work.

Hopefully we'll all get through to him, man.

Yeah, 4055. I put my city too, I figured I was far enough away that it might be a novelty. ;)

I didn't realise things were so bad for him. We had tickets to see him a few years ago at the Fillmore in SF, which is a tiny general-admission place (dunno if you've heard of it), and so we STOOD for two hours waiting for him to come on, and eventually left because we didn't think he ever would, and it was so rough to stand in a tiny crowded venue for two solid hours. Definitely need a change!
