Philosophically Speaking.
Thursday, 29 July 2004 03:59Today, I learned that Pierce Brosnan won't be returning for a fifth Bond outing. Wah. I'd been hoping he'd return one last time, not least because he's good at it, but mostly because Die Another Day wasn't great.
Then I developed a headache to go with the feeling sick yesterday. It is still with me as I write.
Then Michelle linked me to a story (can't find the link now) suggesting that Orlando Bloom will be taking over as a younger Bond. Can we all say NO really fucking loudly? I hope it's as unconfirmed as I think it is. Just NO. Bond's perfection lies in his experience and worldliness. In fifteen years time, I'll be the first to say HELL YES to Bloom as Bond (see icon) but not yet. Get James Purefoy to fill in for a few movies and have done with it.
Headache still here. Getting worse. Saw Garfield: The Movie earlier. Wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but my beloved Garfield was much too cruel to Odie at the start. Garfield treats him horribly but in a comic way. I felt bad for Odie. ODIE for crying out loud! Fortunately that passed.
Am now going to bed. Bah humbug.

Date: 2004-07-28 20:14 (UTC)And umm, yeah, no to Orlando being Bond right now...just no. He's still too young and baby face looking! He needs more wrinkles and worldliness to be Bond. He needs to be less of a boy and more of a man to basically be Bond. Even if they were to do it so that he was portraying a younger Bond...that's a no. I always thought Bond would be as he is now, world wise and older. I even imagine him being like this as a rookie...Orlando can't pull that off right now.
Ooops, sorry for ranting/rambling. >:D< Hope you feel better, headaches are the worst.

Date: 2004-07-29 07:47 (UTC)You know I'd really love the guy as Bond... one day in the future. Not now. AFAIK, the child Bond went through some stuff- parents dying skiing and boarding school and the like that would make him pretty hardened by the time he's a rookie. Besides, from what I know, he starts off in the Navy (hence his Commander title) and from THERE he gets recruited into MI6. And I don't care how pretty/popular the guy is, he's not Bond yet. Not yet, not now. Bond is not meant to go with trends or try to be cool- he already is.
Anyway, you more than anyone else know my perfect idea of Bond!

Too busy going MEEEEEP, BLECH. ;) But, good grief. The only reason to cast him would be to draw in the female box office bucks. Which... yeah, would be a pretty big thing in his favor. But... NO. (I can say it now, heh.)

Date: 2004-07-29 07:43 (UTC)I just... the really annoying thing is that I think OB will be a GREAT Bond... one day. Not now, not today. Mind you, I really don't like Clive Owen, so I hope he doesn't get it after all!
*waves James Purefoy For Bond! flag*

I've never been much for Bond films. The machismo makes me want to retch. Although have to agree, Bloom is way too, teenyboppy, for the role. Die Another Day was that horrible? Well, with Halle Berry's current string of films, not at all surprised. I just read the summary for Catwoman: a skin cream that is addictive and deadly. It's like a plot reject form the Austin Powers movies.

Date: 2004-07-29 07:40 (UTC)I've never thought of Bond as being especially macho, actually- certainly when compared to anything starring a Sylvester, Arnold or Dolph. Maybe I'm just an action movie kind of person and don't notice so much! DAD wasn't terrible, it was just a little blah.
And that skin cream thing sounds very Batman-y, so I can't say I'm surprised! If it were in Austin it would be a special shagadelic love potion rather than skin cream!
