I started packing. Seriously.

This is my fourth year of academic study away from home, and not once have I ever really started packing anything before the last minute (I love the Last Minute, and the Last Minute loves me). Not even in California, where I had so much crap I had to practice packing to do it, did I actually pack before the last minute. The shuttle bus to take me to the airport arrived and I was still in the last throes.

But I already started. My mama's arriving on Friday night, sleeping over and then driving us down on Saturday (will make PP chat, yay!), and I've already started. This is so weird, not least because my pinboard in front of me was choc full of stuff two hours ago and now just has pins and a Doors calendar. This is so unlike me.

I have realised that I'm now thoroughly tired of living in two places like this. Novelty value lasted most of the first year, UCI was special and third year was just madness. Now I just want all my stuff in one fucking place and I do NOT want to live in boxes ANY MORE! I'm tired of having to watch the same six videos over and over again because they're all I brought. This is why I spent so much time n money at Blockbuster this year and why I have downloaded movies. I like the autonomy of living all on my own, and I really quite liked my room this year, with its minifridge in the room and the en-suite bathroom. But I want my room, with all its stuff in it. I want my own damn bed, my own damn desk and my own child-size bookcase turned CD storage unit.

Of course, our house is still a mess from the rewiring thing, so when I get home I'll probably have to remain with my life in boxes and maybe even sleeping on the floor.

OMG- what if the internet isn't back up yet? *dies* Looks like I still might miss chat and everything else too! *weeps

PS. Does anyone know the most efficient way to pack a tambourine?

Does anyone know the most efficient way to pack a tambourine?

Does it have a skin? If so, wrap delicate small items in tissues or toilet paper if you're strapped for cash and use it as a box for them.

If not, wrap the cymbals in tissues to stop them clanging during transit, and stuff it down the side of your box of books/videos, where there's a gap (there's always a gap).

Excellent! Thank you!

I think my mum will kick me and my tambourine out of the car if it rattles for 250 miles. *laughs*

I don't know anything about the tambourine. However, I must say that the entire concept of living in two places does suck. I get my mail at the house, and I live at school. But what really sucks is being at home. I don't have the resources or independence that I have at school. That, and there's actually more space in my dorm than in my room at home. The fact is that I have two rooms worth of junk in one room here at home when I'm here full-time, and I can't do business like I can at school. If I were at school, I would have gotten a haircut today, but here at home, I have to wait until Thursday at the earliest.

But I like the CD collection.

I miss my records. Not just the ridiculous CD collection that's mushroomed lately, but the records. I have quite a bunch now, and I'm one of those people who thinks some music sounds better on vinyl. If I hear 'My Sweet Lord' now, I expect to hear crackles at certain points. When I don't, cos I'm listening on CD or radio or whatever, it feels empty.

It's been a weird day.

I never really got a chance to bond with vinyl. Granted, I'm accustomed to the crackles from my headphones going out on me already (I play my music too loud, but it's rock and roll), but not vinyl.

I was going to suggest a hat box, but realized they aren't something most people have. I mostly "inherited" mine by hanging around, begging from older relatives. Well, not exactly beging, but making sure they knew I love old stuff.

Hope your no internet thing isn't a reality!

"hugs"

You really shouldn't listen to music too loud on headphones, no matter what it is. You're makign yourself incredibly prone to some serious deafness, there. Have seen it happen. Have had it happen temporarily.

I actually have a box that a hat I bought on Ebay came in... but I think I'mgoing to have to stuff my vintage 1930s hat into my suitcase cos I need the boxes.

Cos I didn't have to move out at all since September (at Lancs, I had to move out every holiday) I've really acquired tons of stuff. I can see it not all fitting in the car. *meep*

*hugs*

I know, I know. Bad idea. But I regulate my volume...it's just that some tones cause more damage to the speakers than others. I think I hit the resonance frequency on these things too often or something. Was noticing it earlier today on "Going to California" on my iPod.
