So I just watched Van Helsing. *snores*

Richard Roxburgh was fabulous as Dracula, he really was. Better than the other Dracs I've seen in my time, especially the twat they got in for Buffy.

But other than that and the fact that Hugh Jackman is generally solid in anything he does, this was not good. Don't get me wrong, I love the occasional joke, the digs at the genre (I loved Sommers' The Mummy and The Mummy Returns which are one snicker short of an out and out parody) but this film was just no good. Even the dancing in front of the mirror, a dig at one of those parody movies (i dunno which, but I think it was Leslie Nielsen and partner, stopping everyone in their tracks as they watch in the mirror as just the bird seems to be dancing), was only funny for a second.

It wasn't scary enough. It wasn't funny enough. It wasn't actiony enough. And although I'm sure many of you will settle for seeing Hugh Jackman half naked, I demand more from my movies. And fuck me, that ending was shite.

*snores*

I'm going to take myself to bed now, see if I can't get to sleep at a semi-decent hour. I actually have a place I have go to tomorrow.

oooh, kate beckinsale's accent was lovely. if you have your ears sewn up.

i mean, hugh jackman and kate beckinsale are traditionally good so i'm wondering if they just wanted to "save the movie."

the conversations were just awful. who talks like that? and the unfolding of the story seemed choppy. they were setting it up for a sequel i think, you could sense that right at the middle of it.
