FIRST THINGS FIRST (and a little late):

HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] lissinthecity!

You're a fabulous person, and I hope you're having a great time there in NYC- There at last! You deserve it, mate.

Second things second:
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] emony:

When did you first discover Harry Potter?: I'd heard of the books. Canadian Lisa had spent a chunk of her time in Lancaster trying to get me to read them. I paid her no heed, partly because I was silly enough to think 'children's books *scoff*' (which is rich coming from a girl who still has most of her Enid Blyton and SVH books up in the attic) and partly cos I was much too Buffysessed to care about anything else at all. Then in California when PS came out on DVD I saw it and thought that this might be the thing for me (It happened around the time I totally fell out of interest with Buffy). Bought books. Rest is history.

Were you hooked instantly, or did it take a while?: Instantly, man. I saw it at Natasha's and stopped in at the UCI library to see if they had the books on my way home from there. Their many copies were all out.

Did you instantly fall in love w/ any specific character?: Hermione, I suppose. Me and the rest of the bloody fandom! Not as much as a lot of people- her 'stickler for the rules' thing and lack of humour in the books keep a real distance between the two of us. Sirius Black. Not Fandom!Sirius, but the real thing, really did. Just something about the character. Knowing that he was an arrogant little git at school really makes my affinity to him even greater. He's not Manwhore!Sirius or Irresistible!Sirius, and I like that.

Favourite...
Professor:
McGonagall. I loved her since the start, but 'have a biscuit, Potter' did it, man.
Marauder: Sirius
Gryffindor: Ever? Possibly Lily. I think she's an incredibly interesting, unknown character.
Slytherin: Salazar. The man was clearly going places.
Hufflepuff: Cedric, I think. I tell you why: he got set up to be School Prince and that was all well and good... but it was only so we could see him die and that's bittersweet, man.
Ravenclaw: Well, does this include my Morrison-as-a-Ravenclaw theory? No? OK then Luna. I'm actually, I realise, a lot more like Luna than Hermione. Brasher than Luna, but she's a lot like me.
Character overall: I like the flashbacks, so James and Sirius really.

How long did it take you to read...
Book 1:
45 minutes. I remember thinking it was fast even for me.
Book 2: About an hour.
Book 3: I slowed down for this one, so probably about two. I really don't remember.
Book 4: A few hours. Not many. All the way through and finished reading at 3am, but I couldn't tell you when I started.
Book 5: Six hours.

If you were in Harry Potter...
What house would you be in?:
Everything I've ever done in terms of 'highly credible tests' says Gryffindor. I don't think I'm serious enough to be a Ravenclaw, you see.
What would your pet be?: Dunno. I've never had pets before. Not bothered. Something cool that can take care of itself.
What would your wand be?: I really don't know.
Who would you date?: Nobody, I don't think, regardless of era.
What would be your fav. subject?: Lunch.

Other...
How did you feel about you know who dying? (in OotP):
I was fucking beside myself. Rowling has a lot to answer for. Bitch. Seriously... he was one of two people I really didn't want her to kill off. We'll see what the fallout and consequences are in Six.

What are your views on the Dark Lord?: He's Ernst Stavro Blofeld for the Magical Generation. "So, we meet again Mr Bond. Potter. Whoever you are. Mwah ha ha ha!" Seriously man, it's like he's Blofeld and the Death Eaters are SPECTRE. The Order is MI5, Dumbledore is M. McG is Moneypenny (you know she loves Harry!). Harry is Bond, obviously and Ron and Hermione are his Bond Girls. Hell, Lucius Malfoy is Scary-but-ultimately-inept Largo from Thunderball. Crabbe/Goyle/Whoever is Jaws. Man, it's all falling into place! Harry, you'll want to search any hollowed out volcanoes you might hear about...

Weasleys or Malfoys?: I love the Weasleys. Yes I know they're dysfunctional, but what family ain't? They're big, noisy and I do think at heart they care deeply about each other. Perhaps it's that I come from a family that doesn't really care so much about 'dysfunctional', that doesn't strive to be Picture Perfect Stepford Family, that seems to enjoy shrieking at each other. I don't know. The Malfoys are odd. I don't know enough about them to say. And I'm not so sure Narcissa's the evil mastermind some say she is.
