My cold is worse. Feel like reprocessed shite.

Was 'asked' to accompany my parentals to church today...
Fr Peter, the dude who christened me and my little brother is now at the other church in town so we went there. It was weird- I always had this picture in my head of the church as huge, but it was so much smaller than I remembered it (we used to go there- I did my First Communion there). I mean it seemed so much smaller than I remembered. Anyway, we all know that Catholicism is the Religion of Guilt and this was proved to me again quite spectacularly because there is nothing better for Catholic guilt than to be back after a long old time away. And I was standing/sitting/kneeling there thinking for 45 minutes about all this and got quite wound up about it. All I could think of was Serendipity in Dogma saying that the worst thing about Catholics was that they "don't celebrate your faith, you mourn it." And she's so fucking right. Kevin Smith is a clever, clever man.

Am listening to Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin and I'm just thinking- what the fuck must people have thought the first time they heard that? In the midst of post-psychedelic pop, no wonder it caused a sensation of sorts. Mind you 'Your Time Is Gonna Come' is totally reminiscent of the Doors' 'Five To One' in theme and vibe IMO. Man. That's my one small Zep moment in this post.

As a thank you for going with them (or a bribe to get me to go quietly, I don't know) we went to Blockbuster Video after church. Got The Banger Sisters, the Goldie Hawn & Susan Sarandon flick about two former groupies. Was only OK, even amusing at times but for a film about two girls who were supposedly sooo in love with 60s/70s rock music there wasn't much of it in the film. My attention had started to wane a little when I suddenly heard a familiar opening... someone had the foresight to shove a song from the latest Robert Plant album into the film and my attention was thus restored. Was also a snatch of the Doors' The Crystal Ship which was nice considering that Goldie/Suzette was supposedly so in love with Jim. Surely if she was, she'd listen to them occasionally or something? I don't know. Anyway, it didn't suck but I don't think it's going to hold up to repeat viewing.
