So, why am I not surprised that George W. Bush called the protestant loyalist but not the Catholic republican? Why am I just not surprised?
This is the LAST thing we need him to be even remotely partisan or biased about. If George W Bush has a HOPE of helping in this situation, it's looking at it as a whole from an outsider's view, not thinking 'Oh, I'll stick with the guy like me'. Just no. I'm sorry, but if Bush screws this up, I'll be off to DC to make my most grevious complaints heard. He does not fuck with that place- it has enough problems already.
What N. Ireland really needs is a bloke with power who is capable of seeing all the sides, who has a genuinely good grasp on the whole damn thing and who is desperate to secure peace for everyone, regardless of colour, gender, religion and what have you.
Why do I have a nagging feeling that George W Bush is not that man?
ETA: It turns out that George has finally called Sinn Fein too. And both sides are willing to meet somewhere approaching halfway. How much of this is actually down to GWB is questionable, but at least he HAS called both. Just wonder what took him so long.
