If I believed he'd reformed, then yes. I am humanitarian enough to believe people can change, that they can regret their actions. Just because his victim was famous doesn't mean he should be treated that much more harshly. Thing is, and I'm no expert, has he really reformed? Is he pretending? More than that, who thinks he'll last two minutes out in the real world, whether he's given a new identity or not?
John Lennon inspired millions of people to do many things. He inspired me to take charge of my own destiny, to rein in my temper. He inspired countless musicians, good and bad. He inspired so many people that we still go on and on and on about it. He also inspired that man to shoot him on his own doorstep. Can we really believe that that man is sorry for it now? That he cares? Perhaps I'm very cruel, perhaps I'm vindictive after all, but I don't. As long as that's the case, let him rot in the prison of his own making. He shot that man of his own accord. There have been reports over the years that he doesn't want to stop at John, that there are other rock and roll people on the list (I can't remember the whole list, but at least my darling George doesn't have to worry any more), that the sons of John are on the list. Are these true? Should the world risk it? Because I swear to God, if he does it to another of my boys, I'll be round with the garrotte wire myself.
He forced an entire generation of people to live in fear. Is that forgiveable?
