Had second and final NCTJ Public Affairs exam today- Central Government. I hadn't thought that anything could be more painfully boring than Local Government, but a cursory glance at the procedures of the Conservative Party proved me incorrect. Dunno how I did.

I just downloaded 'I'm Too Sexy' by Right Said Fred after hearing it in an episode of The West Wing. I feel like it's the beginning of summer '93 and me and my friends are in Gloucestershire on our school trip in a youth hostel dorm twatting about to it. 'Deeply Dippy' is bound to be next. Also, Richard Fairbrass as a guest on Never Mind The Buzzcocks is guaranteed humour overload. Surely next I'll hunt down the song 'Right Said Fred' by Bernard Cribbins. All together now: Right said Fred, both of us together, one each end and steaaaady as we go. Draw your own conclusions.

Also, reading some snippets of [livejournal.com profile] rose_rain's copy of The Godfather I was reminded of two things. Firstly, Mario Puzo was a lot more critical of the mafia than the films (excellent though they are) might suggest. Secondly, I really hate the 2-D characterisation of Johnny Fontane's pallie Nino Valenti. Come the fuck on. If you're going to write a pretty meanspirited caricature of someone, at least don't make the name rhyme with the original's! At least Johnny Fontane wasn't something like 'Plank Sumatra' or something like that (although if Mario thought he was fooling anyone... think again). But 'Nino Valenti', a drunk singer who could stand up to 'Johnny'? Why not call a spade a fucking spade and say 'Dino Crocetti', a faux-drunk (sometimes) singer who could stand up to Frank when he could be arsed? I don't know if it annoys me more that it's so transparent or that it's a fairly negative portrayal. In any case, my defence-of-dead-heroes heckles are up, and it's a realy shame because aside from that, I really love the book, even the dull and boring Lucy Mancini stuff. I love the way he describes things, especially Sicily, so it feels like you're really there. I love with way he describes Apollonia and Kay so that you understand how they're different, how they're the same and how Michael manages to be genuinely in love with them both (although it's testament to how long ago it was I read it originally that I didn't totally pick up on the possession elements of Michael's love for Apollonia. Maybe I should make a screenname change!). I love the books, and I love the movies even more (they have James Caan and Al Pacino in, you see), it's just a shame that the book includes such silly, careless things as being mean to Dean. There should be a law against such things. Would help my blood pressure!

So I was on FAP earlier and someone linked in an original character assessment post (don't ask) a link to a page about animal symbolism. I thought I'd take a peek cos I'm wide awake and found this:

Lizard: Lizards symbolize understanding what you dream of, wisdom, good fortune, facing fears and confrontations, death and rebirth. They are connected to the Dreamworld, Hermes, Sarapis, Ahriman and Moko.

Never, ever let it be said that Jim Morrison didn't know exactly what he was doing. Basically, everything in that list is a key part of the Doors 'thing'. It just needed to be connected to Dionysus to be spot on. And the rebirth makes me wonder once again what really is in that grave in Paris- a dead rock star or 150 pounds of sand, as the legend goes? Jim, if you did fake your death, if you happen to read this (and why wouldn't you), drop me a line- I promise I wouldn't tell anyone you faked your death and began a new life as someone else. Swear on Jim Morrison's grave. Kidding. Drop me a line!

Also, my favourite animal is, more or less, the tiger (I prefer sabre-toothed tigers, but apparently there aren't so many of them about these days):
Tiger: Tigers are quick to act, subtle and inconspicuous. They symbolize ferocity, royalty, fearlessness, authority, the warrior aspect, and a lack of procrastination and will power. They are connected to Duga, Shiva, Dionysus and Tsai Chen.
Beyond cool, and there's the Dionysus link! Not sure about the subtle or inconspicuous. I've been accused of many things, but never them.
