Of Flynns and Farrells
Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:06Having seen SWAT and some of American Outlaws today, I can say that there is definitely a touch of the Flynn about Colin Farrell. He's not as pretty as my boy, but there is something in the smile, the quirk of the eyebrow and the knowing look in his eye that reminds me of Errol. And the hellraising doesn't hurt.
I've actually seen more CF films than I realised. I think he's definitely a decent actor, certainly handsome and incredibly charismatic. He's not Errol, but he's on his way there. Perhaps it's some God-given thing the Irish have about them (yes, I know that Flynn was an Aussie, but you don't have the name Flynn for nowt) that makes some of them irresistible. Perhaps it's the shards of Blarney stone in their blood. Perhaps they both have a touch of the devil in them. Perhaps it's just those two. I don't know. But I do know it's something inside them that turns total dross like Dodge City (for Flynn) and American Outlaws (for CF) into something bearable and even entertaining.
Here endeth the lesson.
PS. I don't care who the fuck Colin Farrell is, he's not gonna compare to the wonderful and luminous Richard Burton as Alexander the Great. And having seen pictures, their blond wigs are as dippy as each other.
