Welcome to the Caribbean, love
Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:23Words cannot fully express how much I love Pirates of the Caribbean.
Words cannot begin to express my deep and abiding love for Captain Jack Sparrow. It is like someone sat down and combined my beloved, darling Errol Flynn with my favourite bunch of rock stars. How is anyone supposed to be resist that, even someone of my own stony heart?
DVD features are also v. cool, esp. the selected commentary by the wicked funny Jack Davenport and sometimes as funny Keira Knightley. It was only marred by her incessant mention in nearly every shot where it was filmed. It was a bit "This is in LA. This is the Caribbean. This is in LA. This was in a tank in LA. This was my stunt double in the Caribbean. That's me in LA..." and so on. But other than that, excellent. Deleted scenes also v. cool but I can understand why almost all of them were cut from the finished article.
In short: I love this film. I love it so much. I think, having now seen it three times, that there are places that it drags, but the rest makes up for it.
If I were in Keira Knightley's corset, however, I would be insane with anger at Johnny Depp's effortless and constant upstaging. Fortunately I am not in Keira Knightley's corset and so simply love it.
One last thing: WHY IS THE RUM GONE?
