Have finished The Forsyte Saga, which is just as well because apparently Third Years have to have handed all books back to the library by this coming Monday. Have got out a book called On Forsyte 'Change, which is basically, no word of a lie, a collection of Galsworthy's ficlets regarding the Forstye Clan. So basically since Wednesday afternoon, I've read one trilogy and about three quarters of the ficlets. It's all of the good.

So basically, what I'm doing with my vast HP DDD-verse Potter-Weasley-Black-Malfoy-Richards clan, constructing a vast interlinked family tree with defined characters of all sorts who interact in all kinds of ways, he did eighty years ago and he did it much bloody better. Do not know how to take this, whether to be inspired or downright bloody depressed. I knew there was a reason I stopped reading books! Honestly, I've spent ages doing this- longer since I accidentally threw away the original scrawled family trees for each of the branches a few weeks ago. Of couse in the Potterverse, my peeps can live to at least the mid-100s (that's right canonically, right?) whereas the Forsytes only got to about eighty-five (101 in the case of Timothy). This means that we're talking great-great-great-grandchildren while Harry et al are still alive. Sigh. Have finally decided (as if you care!) what to do with Kit and Flynn too. It's just- I didn't think I was being especially original doing the whole family saga-down-the-generations thing, but I swear this Galsworthy dude has totally done the thing I was aspiring to. Maybe I'm just mad, I don't know.

Oh, and Gregory Peck is dead. Am very depressed by this because aside from being a good actor, he was a good bloke. When his good friend Ava Gardner died, he took her housekeeper and her dog (both of whom Ava adored) in himself. But more than that, another of the few symbols of Old Hollywood we have is gone. A time when stars were really stars instead of this J.Lo bollocks, a time when money and art weren't mutually exclusive (although were on occasion). A time when... fuck it, it's gone and as long as we have shows like Pop Idol/American Idol where the world of entertainment is populated only by fame-hungry, insipid cretins, it will be gone forever.

Also- the network I'm on with Lancaster Uni doesn't seem to let me listen to Real Media stuff off the internet (you all know exactly what I'm talking about) so until Saturday I won't get to hear it. By then I should have the book any way so as Joey Trib would say, it's a moo point. Am v. irritated by this.

And one last thing re the Forsyte Saga and hoping I'm not spoiling it for any Brits watching the TV adaptation: I cannot believe what happens to Jon and Fleur! Is there no justice in this dark and crazy world?

This is the very first HPDDD-verse ficlet, set only a few months after the end of HP DDD. Thought you might like a read. As always, lemme know what you think, man!
