The Great Grad Ball Dress Hunt
Saturday, 31 May 2003 02:22Went to Preston with Natasha today to begin The Great Grad Ball Dress Hunt. Had absolutely nitto in the way of luck. There weren't even any places really selling formal wear. If only to be back in Irvine, where the shops are drowning in the stuff.
On the other hand, I now own a Wizard of Oz t-shirt, a pseudo-military nehru-esque jacket that reminds me of the ones worn by the Beatles for their big Shea Stadium concert, a 2-Disc Led Zeppelin DVD (sigh), High Society on video, the original The Gangs of New York book by Herbert Asbury and... sore feet.
It was also really hot today. I know what you're thinking- hot in Northern Britain, what are the chances? But it was. It wasn't much compared to California, but being in a busy built up area made it worse. And the bloody British always suddenly start wearing skimpy, horrific clothes the second the sun comes out. It is not pretty.
Also, I have discovered that being forced to live without Coke is not pretty on me. It's been so long since I've been without that I didn't even realise.
Another thing: it is possible to sing anything in a crooner style. Today's examples: Thriller, Wannabe, Sound of the Underground and several others. Singing at the top of one's voice while on the swings at 11pm is something every university student should do at least once in their life. I intend to do it yet more still.
Not much else to say, except that my eagerly anticipated Amazon parcel was sent to my home address instead of here because I'm an idiot, so I'll have to wait ages to get the stuff. Le Sigh.
Hugs to all of you because you're all fantastic.
