I've read Brian Reade's column in The Daily Mirror for a long, long time. I don't always agree with him on everything he says, but yesterday I think this brash Scouser got it almost spot on as to how I feel right now.

God Help America.

If I've offended anyone, I honestly don't give a rat's arse. Not because I'm a sore loser or because I don't care, but because I think 'trying not to offend anyone' can do more harm than good. After all, Bush offended 55.6million of his own people, and the other 59million congratulated him on it.

As an American, I loved that article, because IT'S TRUE! The only thing I had a slight problem with is at the end when he says

Yanks had the chance to show the world a better way this week, instead they made a thuggish cowboy ride off into the sunset bathed in glory.</>

I mostly disagree because the states that we all consider to be the Yankee states *all* voted as overwhelmingly Kerry states. It was the damn South that voted for the fucking idiot... *grumbles*

Yes, but to us here 'Yank' is not the same as 'Yankee'. It is, I'm sure, derived from that particular denotion of Northernness, but to us a 'Yank' is an American, pure and simple.
